More on Outcomes
Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 5:33PM In my last entry, I wrote about goals vs. outcomes, and put forth the idea that goals should be within our direct control, while outcomes we work towards should be influenced and shaped by the behavior that we do control.
Outcomes are important too. Ultimately, outcomes are important because they are results. Results are the desired effect of our goals. As we work towards and complete our goals, we must constantly assess whether our actions are having the impact that we want. If not, changing the actions and future goals is called for. While it's wonderful to make progress on goals and to take right action, it's just as important too to keep in mind why we are choosing that action, and to make sure that the action continues to be the best way to make progress on getting what we truly want. The goals are a step on the path, and it's important to make sure that the path is still the one you want.
